TEAM OVERSPEED — RIGA HOCKEY CUP

APRIL 2025

Taking place over a five-week period in Latvia's historic capital city, the Riga Hockey Cup is the largest youth/amateur hockey tournament in Europe. We're thrilled to be bringing two teams to the event in the spring of 2025:

  • 2012 birth years (open to upper end 2013 players) — week of April 14 (tournament runs from April 18-21)

  • 2009 birth years (open to upper end 2010 players) — week of April 21 (tournament runs April 25-27)

The Riga Hockey Cup traditionally attracts teams from all over Europe — Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Estonia, Poland, Ukraine, Norway, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, and more. Many of Europe’s top players have participated in the annual event before going on to pro and NHL careers. Latvia itself is a “hockey-mad” country, with hockey as its national sport and the Riga Hockey Cup being its showcase hockey event!

Our teams will be coached by Toby O’Brien, who spent much of his career scouting, managing, and coaching at the pro/NHL level. Toby will be joined longtime former USA Hockey Coach-in-Chief Ty Newberry and OverSpeed Hockey Development Director Chad O’Brien. Latvian legend, Olympian, and longtime NHL goaltender Artūrs Irbe will also join the coaching staff.

This event is an upper level event, consisting mostly of AA/AAA level players. We will consider A level players if that is the top level offered by your local organization (recommendation will be required). Players will all get equal opportunities throughout the event.

All players must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and they will be invited to all the team activities. This is an all inclusive event, with transportation, high end hotels, meals, sightseeing, practice, friendlies, and more included once we land in Riga.

We want this to be an AMAZING LIFE EXPERIENCE around the game of hockey, so we are looking for the best people, along with strong players from all types of programs, be it local, regional, or elite.
